With the thorough adjustment of China’s economic development mode andregional industrial structure, industrial structure affects the allocative efficiency anduse benefit of the land resource, by way of affecting the land use types, input intensity, use intensity, use structure and spatial distribution, etc. As the essential naturalresources for social and economic development, land resource itself is scarce.Intensive land use is a fundamental policy to solve the contradiction between China’spopulation and land. Therefore, optimizing the industrial structure and maximizingthe efficiency of land resources become issues urgent to address in the regionaleconomic development. In this context, the paper analyzes the impact of China’sindustrial structure on land utilization, by using the methods of qualitative andquantitative analysis and combining theoretical and empirical research.First, the thesis, based on domestic and foreign research and analysis, explainsthe concept and content of industrial structure and land utilization, and makes adetailed analysis about the mechanism of industrial structure’s effect on landutilization; Secondly, according to the overall idea of this thesis, a comprehensiveindex system can be constructed to measure the urban industrial structure byindustrial composition effect (MIX) and competition effect (DIF). At the same time, another comprehensive index system can be built to measure the land utilizationpursuant to the basic idea of AHP. Then, by using principal component analysis, indexmeasurement can be conducted. On this basis, the current situation of the industrialstructure and land utilization is assessed. Finally, an econometric analysis of theimpact of China’s industrial structure on the land use is carried out, which is based onSTIRPAT model (1994) and2002-2009panel data of30provinces. Results shows that,in spite of a good overall trend of the industrial structure and the intensive use of land,China’s land use intensity and use structural comprehensive value is still low, whichshows excessive land use is not yet completely changed and uneven developmentbetween regions is still widespread, etc. Land use structure still needs to be adjustedand optimized. At the same time, the industrial structure effect did not play asignificant role in intensive land use, but the industry competition effect had to take aobvious role of the intensive use of land. The thesis reaches the conclusion that: the overall optimization of industrial structure and intensification of land use are comprehensive and far-reaching systemicprojects covering a number of years, which requires co-coordinated development withvarious factors of economic and social development. Makers of regional economicpolicy need to grasp long-term and short-term factors which can promote industrialstructure’s adjustment and land intensive utilization, and they shouldn’t doing nothingor seeking quick success and instant benefits.
