The Spatial Econometric Analysis On Regional Economic Growth Difference And Convergence Of China

The phenomenon of regional development imbalance is quite obvious in our country, which attracts many scholars’attention,among them the problem about the regional economic growth difference and convergence is the research focus.On the basis of reviewing the literature of the domestic and foreign scholars about the regional economic growth differences and convergence,combined with the theory and method analysis of regional economic growth differences and convergence,this paper takes the difference analysis and convergence analysis to regional economic growth of our country.At the part of the difference analysis,according to using the four measurement methods including the standard deviation, coefficient of variation, Gini coefficient, and Theil index,this paper conducts an empirical analysis to regional economic growth differences from1978to2009. At the part of the convergence analysis,firstly this paper does the σ convergence test to regional economic growth by using the weighted coefficient of variation,and investigates the spatial correlation of china’s real per capita GDP in the regional geographical by using Moran’s I index and Moran scatter plot;then lead spatial econometric model to regional economic growth convergence study,and test absolute β convergence and conditional β convergence of inter-provincial economic growth by using spatial lag model and spatial error panel data model;finally analyze the club convergence conditions of the eastern,central and western regions by using spatial error panel data model.The result of positive analysis shows:firstly, absolute difference and relative difference of our country and regions shows a tendency to expand,and the contribution of secondary industry to the total Gini coefficient is the maximum,and the gap between the zones has become main reason of the regional disparity in China since1993; secondly, regional economic growth does not exist σ convergence, regional economic level shows strong spatial correlation; thirdly, regional economic growth does not exist absolute β convergence, but exists conditional β convergence,and spatial error panel data model is superior to spatial lag model panel model,at the same time the analysis to control variables shows that physical capital,human capital,level of industrialization, urbanization level and the opening level can promote economic growth,but government consumption hinders economic development momentum; fourthly, regional economic growth has the existence of significant club convergence, and the eastern, central and western regions exists convergence in their respective regions.
