With the continuous deepening of global economic integration, the internationalservice trade is occupying a larger proportion in world trade. Financial service trade, asa crucial part in service trade, drives the rest significantly. Furthermore, the financialindustry, in particular, takes an important strategic leadership in a certain economy.Thanks to an open financial market of China, finding out the gap between China andother big powers in financial service trade would be beneficial to improve China’sstatus in the international division of labor and of great significance to grow China intoa real international trade giant historically and pragmatically.First, Supported by relevant theories on service trade, the present research takesthe development process of two world financial service trade powers, the United Statesand Japan, as the comparative research objects, analyzing their histories, currentdevelopments and policy transitions in detail. Second, the present research conducts acomparative analysis for the United States and Japan competitiveness in the financialservice trade, by using the Market Share Ratio (MS), Revealed ComparativeAdvantages (RCA), Trade Competitiveness Index (TC) and other quantitative analysismethods. Finally, based on summarizing the experiences and inspirations from thedevelopment of financial service industry in the United States and Japan, takingChina’s financial industry and its existing problems in account, the research givessuggestions to promote its stable developments, which is of reference value for thegovernment and enterprises to better assure the right way of financial service trade.
