In2009, Chongqing Municipal Government put forward theTen-Thousand-Yuan Income Project. The two flank regions, north and south of theeastern downtown, covering17counties (54,000square kilometers altogether),beautiful with forestry and good air quality, are the ideal places for the breeding ofsome special types of animal. Unfortunately, recent years have witnessed a blindgrowth of the special animal breeding throughout the two regions. Just as the sayinggoes Do as others do, farmers or villagers simply follow their neigbours withoutthinking whether it would be profitable or not.Although the industry of special animal breeding occupies a big proportion ofagricultural income in the two flank regions for recent years, yet it faces the problemof low productivity, which can be described as great in number but scattered, comprehensive but small in scale. With the current macroeconomic policy to enhancethe domestic demand in China, it is worth considering how to adjust strategies forspecial animal breeding and make it a sucessful and sustainable industry during theperiod of the National Twelfth Five-Year Plan. At present, the breeding of some rarespecies has been turned into a large-scale industry in many other parts of China. However, due to the lack of macro-control, market forecasting, scientific planningand rational distribution, the situation is not satisfactory. To make the special breedinga prosperous industry, we first need to be aware of the situation where we are and theproblems that we are facing, and then we need to know the market prospects. This research is intended to survey by sampling the present state of the specialanimals’ breeding in the17counties as well as the sales channels and scale, to predictthe future market on our analysis of the present situation and to propose that moreattention be paid to alterations in the national policy when choosing species for breedingand that priority be given to those species which have both economic and socioculturalvalues for a comprehensive exploration, including a mature breeding technique, sothat valid reference is available when it is needed by agricultural and sidelinepersonnel, government officials, salespeople and enterpriseurs.
