At present, research of the relevant theory and implementation about BPM mainlyconcentrated in discrete manufacturing, so corresponding theory is also more mature,which brings the increasingly apparent effects in guiding process management ofdiscrete manufacturing. Meanwhile, sequential manufacturing is generally consideredas less species of raw materials, simple product structure and production craftwork,few researchers involve into its BPM fields. In fact, because of the particularity ofproducts structure, complexity of data measurement in the whole production andbusiness operation process, volatility of manufacturing process and dynamicadjustment of formulas, sequential manufacturing emphasizes more on tracking andadjustment during the process, as well as connection and integration of the eachbusiness link. Therefore, it’s more urgent to use BPM to guiding business flow ofsequential manufacturing industries and constructing clear business processmanagement system.Starting with the features of production in sequential manufacturing industries, thispaper integrated the four stages-modeling, execution, management, and optimization-of Business Process Management (BPM) into related links of production in SequentialManufacturing, and constructed a BPM model orienting to Sequential Manufacturing(SMBPM). Then applied this model into a Chemical Enterprise, and take itsproduction scheduling business process for example, this paper put forward anoptimization solution, which integrated MES, PCS and ERP for achieving seamlessintegration of the plan control, the scheduling and the production site processmanagement. At last, with the support of the YAWL, the automatic execution of BPMin sequential manufacturing was explored.In this paper, the main results are as follows:(1)Deeply analyze the features of production in sequential manufacturing industriesand the present status of the business process management in this field, and put forward a model which combined the production management mode of SequentialManufacturing and each function of the BPM life cycle.(2)According to the specific circumstances of a chemical enterprise, use theconstructed model to analyze the Production scheduling business process, and putforward a BPM optimization program in sequential manufacturing. Combined withthe construction of enterprise information construction, constructed a BPMplatform insequential manufacturing. The platform also has universal applicability in the othersequential manufacturing’s business process management.(3)Introduce the application of the YAWL into the business process management ofthe sequential manufacturing, take production scheduling business process of aChemical Enterprise for example, and explore the automatic execution of BPMfunction in sequential manufacturing.
