International EPC Project Management Study For Chinese Companies

With the acceleration of the pace of opening to the outside world, foreign investment projects have multiplied and numerous internationally known engineering companies have swarmed into Chinese engineering fields, spreading advanced technology and management ideas. Meanwhile, China also accumulates a lot of management experience from the attempt to conduct EPC projects nationally, with the gradual implementation of the overall contract system. Managerial problems still exist in carrying out the international EPC projects, partial Chinese corporations have paid a lot. Therefore, it is of great value to study the management and implementation problems when Chinese companies shoulder the international projects, and then come up with corresponding corrective ideas and measures, which will help to improve the competitiveness in the international engineering world.Thesis research idea:This thesis is based on the EPC practice of Indonesia South Kalimantan power plant by China Chengda Engineering Cor., Ltd, and is to point out and analyze the problems existing in Chinese corporation while conducting worldwide overall contract projects with advanced management theories and methods of the modern engineering projects. This aims at providing enlightenment and examples to the Chinese corporation who conduct outer EPC projects.Main Contents of the thesis:Analyze the prominent problems in EPC project management, based on the description of the actual facts of EPC projects by Chinese corporation and based on the internationalized roads, conduction states and basic modes coming into international engineering world; In the respective of theoretic support of project implement management, describe the management theories and methods of the overall contract projects briefly; The thesis analyzes comprehensively the construction condition of South Kalimantan Power Plant Project by China Chengda Engineering Cor., Ltd, mainly discusses key issues confronted during the project management, like the coordination of dynamic balanced relation among construction progress, quality and costs, accidental management, human resource management, and come up with the corresponding practical measures and methods; Summarize the management experience, and provides as an example to other related companies by Chengda Engineering Cor., Ltd in this power plant, and come up with ideas and strategies in improving EPC management.Main Characteristics and contributions:the thesis puts the theories into practice to solve the practical problems met in the EPC contract management. The thesis is centered on the main line of national and foreign EPC project management comparison, with prominent key points, and mainly analyzes the three key factors of three control, risk management and human resource. Theoretically speaking, the thesis mainly compares the problems mentioned above happening to Chinese corporations and their causes. This is a differential analysis. And then, come up with concrete strategies and measures in the three controls, risk management and human resource, which is taken the actual facts of the Indonesia South Kalimantan Project into consideration and is also distinguished from national overall contract management under the basic comparison and contrast ideas. The ideas and methods mentioned in this thesis is surely supposed to provide some beneficial enlightenment and experience to partners who is working on the international EPC contract.Due to the limited experiences of the author, some inadequate understanding and analysis of EPC project management may not be comprehensive. The author comes up with the concrete strategies and measures in foreign overall contract project management based on the practice of the Indonesia South Kalimantan Power Plant, so the above mentioned may not be universal to all, due to its specialty. It just serves as a reference.
