After entering into the21st century, the BRICS as the representativeof the emerging economies and leader of developing countries, their rapidrise is becoming an important driving force for global economic growthThe BRICS, which is composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and SouthAfrica. For conforming to the trend of world economic development, themember states among these countries have launched some form of tradeand economic cooperation. If the BRICS can strengthen cooperation, therole of the five countries in promoting world economy will be veryimpressive. Conversely, if the BRICS are blindly from their own interestsand just compete with each other, then any of the members are difficult tooccupy a stable position in the world economy rapidly changed. Tradestatistics recently shows that the bilateral trade between China andBRICS countries has grown rapidly, with higher growth rate than China’saverage growth rate on international trade. As a large developing countryin the BRICS, China should play a positive role in the cooperationespecially in the trade cooperation, and actively explore the tradecomplementarities between China and the other members of the BRICcountries.In this context, this article is divided into five chapters to study thetrade complementarities between China and the four other members ofthe BRICS. The first chapter is an introduction, this part leads to the thesis research background, purpose and meaning, and shows the researchmethods, structural arrangements, as well as the innovative and existinginadequate may arise. The second chapter is a related concept defined andsummary of the trade complementarities theory, in this part, we definedthe concept of trade complementarities and the BRICS; it also focuses onthe research of domestic and foreign scholars on trade complementaritiesand some scholars’ study in the trade complementarities between Chinaand the other members of BRICS. The first two chapters as the basicsection of our paper establish a solid theoretical foundation for the lattertwo chapters. In the third chapter, we show the trade situation betweenChina and the other members of the BRICS, in this part through researchon the trade situation between China and the other members of theBRICS, combined with the characteristics of China’s import and exportcommodity structure. We have analyzed the trade complementaritiesexisted between China and the other members of the BRICS qualitativelyThe forth chapter is an empirical analysis of the trade complementaritiesbetween China and other BRICS. On the basis of the analysis in the thirdchapter, with the quantitative analysis method, by using of the revealedcomparative advantage index, the trade complementarities index and thetrade specialization coefficient systematically, combined with the relevantdata, we make an empirical analysis of trade complementarities betweenChina and the other members of the BRICS. Chapter III and Chapter IV are key chapters of this paper. The fifth chapter is conclusions and policyrecommendations. In this part, according to the preceding analysis, andcombining with the actual situation of China’s current trade developmentwe draw some relevant conclusions and try to make some thoughtfulsuggestions.
