The Exploration Of Chongqing’s New Processing Trade Mode

Since World War II ended, processing trade has begun to rise as arepresentative of new mode of international trade in the background ofeconomic globalization. Through30years of reform and opening up, the modeof “bulk in and bulk out, double overseas” has brought150million jobs and1.2trillion dollars for the coastal areas of China, playing an important role inthe process of industrialization and internationalization.In recent years, Based on the problems of coastal areas’ factors ofproduction supplies hastening to tighten, such as land、 labor, industrialupgrading pressures increase, business cost improves, appreciation of theRMB, the transformation and upgrading of processing trade is inevitable. Inview of the core problems of high logistics cost and bonded area deprivation,even if our country advocated “speeding inland open”, the inland areas havealso introduced preferential policies one after another to encourage toundertake the coastal areas’ processing trade, but still had little effect.Chongqing serves as the western area, it avoided merely depending on thelowest-end labor competition strategy of the “smiling curve”, and then tookthe opportunity of processing notebook computers, made use of industrialcluster and the scale effect, gradually realized80%indigenous productionstrategy of various parts, thereby improved the research and developmentlevel of Chongqing’s electronic information industry. Meanwhile, inlogistics、 bonded areas、 employee services、 financial settlement aspects,Chongqing adopted especial conceptual model, and achieved good results.The paper used quantitative and qualitative research methods, guided bycomparative advantage and product life cycle theory、external economies ofscale theory, respectively introduced the coastal area processing trade modeand new features of Chongqing’s “a head in and a head out” processing trademode, then applied empirical analysis, through a series of economic effects processing trade innovation mode bringing Chongqing’s foreign trade、economic growth、industrial structure、ratio of dependence on foreign tradeand employment, illustrating it produced positive roles, then analyzed thedefects and problems existing in such mode, eventually gave some referencesand policy suggestions.
