Dell’s effective supply chain management is one of the foundations of thecompany’s success. Based on the product’s life cycle theory, Dell procurement teammanages their products with different material strategies under different stage.However, when a product comes to the end of life, Dell used to be liable for hugeamount of Excess&Obsolete materials in the supply chain due to poor materialmanagement. It’s urgent and necessary for Dell to figure out the end of life materialmanagement strategy to address the current issues.This study, based on the research of life cycle management, by figuring out themain impact factors to the Excess&Obsolete (E&O) material management, propose8strategies on proactive actions taken, supply chain incentive system, IT systemdevelopment, common module design ultilization, manufacturing by bottleneckresource, supply chain map simplification, concentrate marketing tactic and supplychain performance design, to mitigate the risk.With the end of life material management strategies, and based on the advancedsupply chain management theory, this thesis further develop the material managementmodel for Dell computing products to cover the products design with optimization onmaterials, sales and marketing strategies, ODM inventory IT system implementation,process optimization and performance assessment. By real case study, those strategiesand model are verified as valid and effective.
