The culture of Servant Leadership, a management culture that lays its emphasis onpeople-oriented and has done its great contributions to the healthy growth of organizations andtheir harmonious development, prevails in the western management circle in recent years. Thecore idea of this management theory lies in attaching great importance to people, respectingpeople, relying on people, encouraging people, and developing people. Secretarial Science is aninterdisciplinary subject of linguistics and management, and should get enlightened from bothbusiness administration and public administration. Introducing Servant Leadership Theory willnot only strengthen the secretaries’ service awareness and improve their efficiency, but alsoenrich the theoretic development of Secretarial Science. The first part of the paper discussesabout the source of servant leadership theory, analyzes the framework of the theory and its mainidea, and furthermore its concept and connotation, and reveals the meaning and utility of theservant leadership theory on secretaries’daily work. The second part of the paper lays itsemphasis on the connotation, meaning and principles of secretaries’ servant awareness, based onthe relationship between the servant leadership theory and secretaries’servant awareness. Thethird part of the paper draws connections to secretary’s practical performance in their dailyroutine, elaborating eight suggestions for the construction of secretaries’ servant awareness,including emphasizing the effects of listening, learning trans-positioning thinking and empathy,excelling in self-healing, increasing self-awareness, stressing on gaining trust from the public,strengthening the power of foresight, wholeheartedly playing the role of steward and buildingharmonious community. The paper concluded that both governmental secretary and businesssecretary, besides the outstanding comprehensive capabilities, need to stick to the principle ofservice tenet, cultivate modern secretaries’ awareness in “Three Services”. Only with clearawareness, government secretariats can discern roles well, find the right position, improve theirability to provide service, enhance the resistance to the temptation of corruption, and finally trainthemselves to be talents excellent in management and service.
