The enduring economic growth and export of China in the last twenty years are exhausting the world’s natural resources. As the world factory, China is producing for the world with limited domestic natural resources; thus, the relationship between export and energy consumption is the crucial point to the sustainable economic development of China, which is highly export reliable economy. In this paper, the energy consumption time series data over the1978-2007is used. With the VAR, Co-integration and impulse responds function method, significant empirical evidence is found that the ratio of international trade in the whole economy aroused the increasing of per capital energy consumption. Reasonable explanation is that the energy consumption of international trade related factors is higher than the energy consumption of the correspondent domestic factors. In the second part of the paper, using input-output analysis, energy embodied in China trade goods in2007was calculate based on twenty-four selected factors. This empirical result is consistent with the assumption in the first part of the paper that the energy consumption of international trade related factors is relatively higher. Prospective policy suggestions are given after the empirical analysis.
