In recent years, with the increasingly diverse needs of customers in the manufacturing industry, how to satisfy various demands of customers quickly while achieving low-cost operating and maintaining a sustainable competitive advantage is the problem many manufacturing enterprises are facing. The level of the inventory is a very important factor which affects the operating cost of a company and at the same time determines the extent of the development and the progress of a company. Therefore inventory management is becoming more and more important to the management activities. In addition, with the formation and development of the supply chain management in the1990s, market competition is not only the game between the single enterprise but more between the supply chain. As what is said above, doing research on inventory management of manufacturing enterprises under supply chain is of great significance.This thesis takes the supply chain as a perspective and does research on the inventory management of H Company in the motorcycle manufacturing industry. After the analysis of inventory situations and problems of H Company, we aim to make pointed references for H Company in combination of the related literatures and theories home and abroad.Firstly, this thesis begins with the internal supply chain and uses the essences of lean production (LP) for reference to propose suitable inventory solutions for H Company, primarily LP implementation processes and some suggestions in the process. We aim to solve the inventory problems of components overstock in the line library and unbalanced production through the improvement of the internal production process and at the same time to provide guarantee for the implementation of VMI. The following aspects are included:the establishment of inventory targets, the formation of enterprise culture and standardized process, the construction of LP team and workers and lastly the application of LP tools such as just-in-time production, automation production and production of equalization.Followed, this thesis consults the vendor managed inventory (VMI) from the external supply chain to advance inventory strategies for H Company. The following aspects are included:the selection indicators and process of VMI suppliers referring the related literatures, the analysis of suppliers-manufacturers (core enterprise) operating mode based on the analysis of the conditions of H Company and its suppliers and lastly the design of VMI implementation process for H Company.This thesis designs LP and VMI strategies for H Company, aiming to let LP act in concert with VMI through coordination and cooperation between the internal supply chain and the external supply chain to achieve the goals of improving inventory management of H Company. We hope to provide references to the inventory management of H Company and the related companies in the same industry.
