Study On Comparison Of Urban Sustainable Development Indicator Systems

Since city was born in Mesopotamia, with the promotion and in-depth developmentof both urbanization and industrialization, the urban sustainability was faced with moreand more serious challenges and problems. Then people began to pay more attention tothe urban sustainable development slowly. In order to measure and assess situation ofurban sustainability, urban sustainable indicator systems were created and developed asimportant means and tools. From1990s, indicator systems about urban sustainabilityemerged endlessly and have been turning into the hot field of research and focus ofsustained development. As our country is a developing one, study on urbansustainability began late. Fortunately academic circles devoted a great of enthusiasmand concern on urban sustainable indicator systems. For the purpose of comparing andanalyzing the effects, features and rationality of these urban sustainable indicatorsystems, we have carried out comprehensive comparison research on urban sustainableindicator systems. Main research contents and conclusions are as follows:①Owing to urban sustainability is one of sustainable development fields, it is quitenecessary to clarify the scientific connotations of urban sustainability and sustaineddevelopment. By means of literature review and expert interviews, this paper analyzesconcepts and meanings of urban sustainability and sustained development and pointsout that urban sustainable index system plays an important role in decision-makingcycle of urban sustained development and impenetrate the whole process of urbansustainable development.②This paper fully studies the domestic and international typical index systems ofsustainable development, and systematically clarifies and analyzes composition,characteristics and existing problems of these indicator systems. And these research jobsprovide a strong support and source of ideas for comprehensive contrast study of urbansustainable development indicator systems.③Through complex selection, sustainable indicator systems of six representativecities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi’an and Qingdao were chose.These six indicator systems were study object of comprehensive comparison. To beginwith, compliance comparison and analysis was conducted between indicators of sixtypical cities and benchmark indicators. It is found and analyzed for existing problems and features of indicator system of every city. Furthermore selection of indicator,structure pattern and weight setting concerning indicators of the six cities are comparedcomprehensively. Finally, some precious experience and valuable methods areconcluded and recommended as to urban sustainable indicator systems.The research results of comprehensive comparison of urban sustainable indicatorsystems will provide technical support and theoretical basis for establishment andpromotion and practice of perfect urban sustainable indicator systems in future, whichhas important practical significance.
