Research On Henan’s Agricultural Modernization

Agricultural modernization is an important means of converting traditionalagriculture to modern agriculture. This course is dynamic and periodical. As a bigagricultural province, Henan shoulders heavy responsibilities of sustaining ournation’s grain safety. Therefore, Henan pays high attention to promoting agriculturalmodernization.Upon the background of constructing the Central Plains Economic Area, thispaper investigates research on Henan’s agricultural modernization based on assessingits county agriculture by means of DEA. Firstly, combining with Henan’s basicconditions, this essay simply analyses Henan’s agriculture modernization by SWOT.Secondly, after referring to relative literatures, this paper attempts to constructcomprehensive evaluation index system by AHP and measures the general level ofHenan’s agricultural modernization. The results show that Henan’s general level is ina transitional period from the beginning to preliminary realization and is lower thannational average level; besides, this essay analyses the general level of Henan’sagricultural modernization from different characteristics such as agriculturalproduction conditions, agricultural input levels, agricultural productivity, ruraleconomic structure, etc. And then, by cluster analysis, this paper clarify Henan’s108counties as three types, agricultural dominant economy, industrial dominant economyand combined economy; based on CRS model of input, this paper measures theefficiency of the three different types of counties by DEA. The results show that therelative efficiency of21counties is less1, which illustrates there has slack variables.This indicates these21counties suffer invalid technical effective and there isconsiderable improvement. Finally, through drawing lessons from developedcountries and advantaged regions, combining Henan’s whole agriculturalmodernization level and the efficiency of county agricultural modernization, thispaper investigates problems existing in the process of Henan’s agriculturalmodernization and restrictions in new period. Following that, this paper proposes pathselection and countermeasure suggestions promoting and optimizing Henan’sagricultural modernization.
