A Study On The Automobile Industry Cluster Of Jilin Province

In1953,the construction of the First Automobile Works was a towering milestonein the history of the development of China’s automobile industry. As an importantstrategic industry of the northeast old industrial base, the automobile industry in JilinProvince has experienced nearly six years of hard work and continuous development.The automotive industry cluster with leading enterprise, the FAW Group, has beenformed as a series of large-scale industrial chain including technology research anddevelopment, parts production, vehicle manufacturing and even logisticstransportation, vehicle sales and service.In2011, the volume of Jilin Province vehicleproduction and sales was1.632million yuan and1.667million yuan, accounting for9.0%of the domestic car market shares. At the end of2011, the number of JilinProvince’s industrial enterprises above designated size in the automobile industry was363, the output value totaled451.9billion yuan, with an increase of15.3%, when therealization of industrial added value totaled123.3billion yuan, with an increase of10.6%; export earnings of4.8billion yuan, with an increase of39.5%; realized a totalprofit of50.8billion yuan, with an increase of34.4%.Despite in the scale ofproduction and the industrial system, the enterprise of industrial clusters in JilinProvince has made some achievements, but them still need to strengthen their own assoon as possible to face the constantly differentiated consumer demand for cars andthe continued strengthening of international competitive pressures.Currently,problems in the automobile industry cluster development in Jilin Province embodiedin the lack of strong core technology, the dis-matching degree of development of thecar companies and parts enterprises and the imperfect internal communicationmechanism. So, how to play this industry cluster role of organizational form toachieve integration of the automotive industry chain, improve the competitiveness of enterprises in the cluster, and meet the purpose of sharing industry technologicalinnovation risk, it becomes a problem should be solved in the current study.In the first part of this article-Introduction, it introduces the research backgroundand significance, and combs more meticulously the historical development of theindustrial cluster theory, and make some classification and summary of the distinctivecharacteristics of the domestic industry cluster research.In the first chapter, it presents the concept of industrial clusters and automobileindustrial clusters, and then through the review of industrial clusters development ofbasic theory and the literature review, sums up the mechanism in the formation ofindustrial clusters and competitive advantage.In the second chapter, it groups the process of development of the automobileindustry in Jilin Province cluster into four stages,they were the founding stage,developing stage, growth stage and mature stage. And then, it describes each stage ofthe development of the automobile industry cluster in Jilin Province.In the third chapter, the paper points out that the main problem of the automobileindustry cluster development in Jilin Province, such as: insufficient investment inresearch and development, the urgent need to enhance the soft environment, the partsmanufacturers backward production levels, the overall low degree of specialization,the business model lagging behind; and then makes discussion outside to the inside onthe various issues in-depth, to seek the deeper reasons for the formation and historicalfactors.In the fourth chapter, facing the main issues of the automobile industry clusterdevelopment in Jilin Province, we put forward corresponding countermeasures andsuggestions, such as improving the soft environment of the automobile industrycluster, strengthen product competitiveness of supporting industries within the socialnetwork construction and other related measures in order to enhance clustercompetitiveness of industries.In the last chapters, we summarize the main conclusions of overall text, in orderto be able to make some theoretical guidance and practical contribution to thedevelopment of the automobile industry cluster in Jilin Province.
