An Empirical Study On Firm’s Intellectual Capital, Absorptive Capacity And Innovation Performance

With the deepening integration of world economic, the competition betweenenterprises is also growing, and more and more managers realize that innovation isvery important for the enterprises’ sustainable development. Enterprise must keepconstantly innovation and increase the competitive advantage, they can control andwin the market. There are two important terms for enterprises if they want tomaintain the strong innovation capacity, one is the strong knowledge reserves, theother is ability to absorb new knowledge quickly. Therefore, research on intellectualcapital and absorptive capacity and innovation has become the focus of academic inrecent years.Through reviewing the previous fruitful scholars, this study constructs thetheoretical framework of intellectual capital and absorptive capacity and innovationperformance, and through the empirical study, we also test the intermediary effect ofabsorptive capacity between intellectual capital and innovation performance. Thisstudy uses questionnaires to collect the sample data, and combined with factoranalysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis to test the assumption by usingSPSS. This paper will mainly study on the following problems:1. The relationshipbetween intellectual capital and innovation performance;2. The relationship betweenabsorptive capacity and innovation performance;3. The relationship betweenintellectual capital and absorptive capacity;4. The relationship among intellectualcapital, absorptive capacity and innovation performance.Based on the empirical analysis of282samples data, this paper gets thefollowing conclusions:1. Intellectual capital has a significant positive effect on innovation performance. Enterprise can improve the innovation performance by enhance itshuman capital, organization capital and social capital.2. The absorption ability has a significant positive effect on innovationperformance. Enterprise should pay attention to construct the absorptive capacity,improve the sensitivity of all kinds of new knowledge, new technology andopportunity, in order to obtain the required resources and apply them to improve theinnovation performance.3. Intellectual capital has a significant positive effect on absorptive ability.Enterprise’s own knowledge accumulation is very necessary for identify, digest andeffectively use the new knowledge.4. The absorption capacity plays an intermediary role between intellectualcapital and innovation performance. If enterprises want to use its intellectual capitalto improve innovation performance, it is a feasible way to promote the absorptivecapacity firstly.Above all, the theory innovation point of this research is put forward theframework of “intellectual capital-absorptive capacity-innovation performance”from the perspective of absorptive capacity, and uses the empirical study to test them.At the same time, this article puts forward the suggestions to enhance the innovationperformance. On the one hand, enterprise can improve their intellectual capital toenhance its knowledge reserves; On the other hand, they can strengthen theconstruction of the absorptive capacity to improve its ability to access and effectiveuse the new knowledge.
