There has significant competitive pressure on the domestic machinery manufacturing enterprises since China’s accession to the WTO, due to the influx of a large number of foreign machinery manufacturing enterprises. In order to improve the level of products, an advanced Six Sigma management method has been introduced by the major machinery manufacturing enterprises of China. With the continued promotion of Six Sigma management method, the gap of product quality between Chinese and West Enterprises is getting smaller with irresistible force. Thereby it is of great significance to study the Six Sigma method and its application in business management, for the sake of improvement of product quality and enhancement of competitiveness of enterprises.In this thesis, we introduce the Six Sigma management method and make a thorough review of its applications at both home and abroad. The Six Sigma management method is studied and used to promote the boom welding process capability of21tons excavator specific effects in a machinery manufacturing company of China. The need of Six Sigma method is demonstrated by a brief analysis of the enterprise production management at current situation. The research scope is proposed by looking for the main factors influencing the process capability of movable arm welding. The stability of system is inspected by measuring the data of status quo of the factors. Then, the key factors which could influence process capability of the movable arm welding and quality level are identified by the analysis of production cycle, material repair procedure and the process of repair. Following, the best solution to improve boom process capability is found by specific improvements to the key factors. Finally, the sustainability of process capability of boom is ensured by standardized documents of the results obtained from the project. In a word, the Six Sigma management method plays a key role to improve the product performance and quality of a company.
