In the early time of1950s,156key construction programs broke ground in Lanzhou including the refinery, the chemical fertilizer plant and the rubber plant during the first Five Year Plan. By pushing aside all obstacles and difficulties, the three plants were built quick and put into practice in1958. Since then, Lahzhou Refinery and Lanzhou Chemical Company, which were the predecessors of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, kicking off the industry of refinery and petrochemical development.With the requirement of science and innovation, the Research Institute of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company was built in2005, which focus on scientific research and technical support to the company. In the new era, the market has a high expectation on the quality of productions and research capacity of the company. The Research Institute is required to fully aware of its advantages and disadvantages in order to avoid the thread and make use of the opportunity. Meanwhile, it needs to take effective measures and development strategy according to the requirement of sustainable development.The thesis formulates a clear development strategy for Research Institute according to the analysis of its external and internal environment. The strategy of innovated management and operating management have also been regulated and optimized. All the strategies could be used for reference to improve the core competence, the corporate culture and sustainable development.There are six chapters in the thesis. The first chapter is the preface, which briefly introduces the background of the thesis, the content and the importance of carrying out the research of strategic management in Research Institute. The second chapter introduces the basic theory of strategic management and the tools used for evaluation. The third chapter is about the analysis of strategic management. Find out the advantages, disadvantages, threats and opportunities by analyzing the internal and external environment of Research Institute. The forth chapter is the choices of development strategy. Make sure of the objectives of development strategy in Research Institute on the basic of SWOT analysis, and choose the strategies which are suitable for Research Institute. The fifth chapter is the implementation and control of development strategy, which also provide the scheme for the implementation of the strategy. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the thesis.The thesis adopts the scientific method to do the research and analysis of the environment, using the SWOT analytical approach to analyze the combination of WT, SO, WO and ST in order to find out the existing advantages and threats. Then carry out the research of implementation and control, put forward the suggestions and measures for the improvement.
