The original equipment manufacturing method has greatly improved the quick development of the economy in Zhejiang Province, which makes the block raginal economy obvious. Most companies use the order-driven, integrated flow, multi-function production equioment, multi-variety, multi-process and the middle and small batch as the manufacturing methods. Comparing to the traditional simple discrete manufacturing, this kind of production method has such virtue as dynamic manufacturing batch and transportation batch, dynamic property and diversity of manufacturing resource, the production routes have great differences and are nonlinear, so whether the production line is balanced is especially important to the run efficiency and the cost of the production system. On principle, Cellular Automata is the exclusive Boolean system method which is designed according to the characteristic of complex system and can simulate on computer. So it has good theory significance and practical value to do research on the balance problem of multi-variety and multi-process production line by using cellular automata.The major work and results are as follows:1. Analyzes the CA model and the production line balance model, and figures out the difference and similarities between them, and then discusses the feasibility to integrate the two models.2. Dedcribes the constraints of the multi-variety and multi-process production line, to lay a foundation for setting up a multi-variety and multi-process complex production line balance model based on the evolution rules of CA.3. Sets up a mathematical model for the multi-variety and multi-process production line, and makes the evolution rules based on CA model, and then establishes the simulation system for the multi-variety and multi-process complex production line balance problem.4. According to the balance analysis to the multi-variety and multi-process production line in a company of Ningbo city, it is proved that the balance model of multi-variety and multi-process complex production line based on CA revolution rules has validity.This paper applies the CA method to the multi-variety and multi-process complex production line balance problem, and sets up a multi-variety and multi-process complex production line balance model based on the CA model, and then apply the model to the real production balance problem in a company, which gets good effect. In the future, the theory of CA method is supposed to be applied to more fields such as production scheduling.
