As the intermediate to produce acetyl acetone by isomerization in the process of acetyl acetone production, the purity of isopropenyl acetate has notable effect on the purity and yield of acetyl acetone. Isopropenyl acetate is a unique acetylating agent which has the tendency to decompose in the presence of acid or at the elevate temperature, the separation of isopropenyl acetate carried out by common distillation process may cause the partial decomposition at the high temperature in the reboiler, so the purity of isopropenyl acetate is hardly reached99.5%(mass fraction). In this research, a heterogeneous azeotropic distillation with water as the entrainer was used to replace the common distillation to separate isopropenyl acetate. With the purpose of supplying sufficient theoretical basics for that distillation process, the phase equilibria of the corresponding system in heterogeneous azeotropic distillation process has been investigated and a simulated process has also founded with the properties obtained by the prior phase equilibria research. In the phase equilibria research, the detail phase equilibria data of LLE and VLLE for the ternary system isopropenyl acetate+water+acetic acid has been determined and compared the consistency with the data calculated with several activity coefficients models. The interaction binary parameters between these components were also obtained by the experimental data with the suitable thermodynamics model.Based on that phase equilibria research, a simulate work about the heterogeneous azeotropic distillation with water as the entrainer was accomplished by the chemical software Aspen plus. At first, a steady-state design of the azeotropic distillation process was founded, then the optimal process was obtained by TAC anlayze of the operational parameters. The exergy of some equipment were also made. The azeotropic distillation process with a depressurized operation was analyzed in the last part.
