Vertical grinding machine (also called vertical-shaft grinding machine) withcircular table is a kind of high precision machine tool with vertical shaft and roundtable, the object of this research is the vertical grinding machine used for cylindrical(cone) surface. Based on the market survey, the design specifications of grindingmachine are determined, and then the initial innovation models are established usingfunction--structure-mapping method. New design candidates of different parts areobtained through the function structure innovation, Then, new machine candidates areobtained by combination of modules. The modular platform framework of differentvertical grinding machine product lines are set up, considering the data of static,dynamic, thermal analysis, the best are found out by structure candidates evaluationmethod. Then final base machines are determined. Finally, the process of the wholedesign, analysis and production configuration are described in the view of PDMsystem.The main research content is as follows:(1) The vertical grinding machine structure and related technologies areintroduced, and then, the focus of this research are put forward.(2) The design direction solutions are determined based on the market demandsurvey, which contains the technology and main parameters. Three kind of differentparameter grinding machines are established using function-structure-mappingmethod, Then three kind of different initial modal are determined. The innovativestructures are designed using method of innovative design. New machine candidatesare got by configurations of the main modules.(3) The static, dynamic, thermal analysis of different specifications of verticalgrinding machine are carried out, the data and graph reflecting directly the relationbetween the variation of the structure of the characteristics performance are obtained.This section of content provide reliable data for the evaluation in next section.(4) Three evaluation models are established including fuzzy comprehensiveevaluation method, TOPSIS method and the grey correlation method. Taking thequality and static dynamic and thermal characteristics of all the machine candidatesas evaluation index, The optimal candidate is obtained. (5) The principle and method of top-down design process is set up, the overallframework of the product data management system is constructed to manage all thedata in the process of product design and subsequent process of analysis, evaluationand so on. Thus, data sharing are realized. At the same time, the coding systems ofvertical grinding machine are established to make the process of product datamanagement more rational, more efficient.
