Blast furnace slag is a major byproduct of iron-making, which has a great usingpotentiality. The remelting of blast furnace slag can be saved, the environment of theworkshop is improved, and the economic benefits for the iron and steel enterprises can becreated by using blowing the molten blast furnace slag directly to make slag wool fiber andpreparing fiberboard by adding appropriate binder.The method of blowing molten blast furnace slag was used to prepare the slag woolfiber and the preparation process of slag wool fiber was gotten. The impact of differentbinder to the blast furnace slag wool fiberboard was studied. The influence of the binder,the molding pressure, the temperature and other factors on the heat conductivity, volumeweight, water absorbability, burning resistance and other performances was analyzed, theeffects of the factors on the fiberboard were gotten, which provided a theoretical basis forthe actual production.The slag wool fiber prepared by blowing molten blast furnace slag is solid cylindricalfiber with smooth surface, whose average diameter is about3.5μm. The shot content ofslag wool fiber is low and the TG shrinkage temperature is high. Therefore, the slag woolfiber is a kind of good insulation materials. The performance of blast furnace slag woolfiberboard, which is prepared with carboxymethyl cellulose solution and sodium silicate asa binder, is good. The volume weight of slag wool fiberboard has a relationship with thetype and quantity of binder, molding pressure, and shot content. The best volume weight is280~300kg/m3. The heat conductivity of slag wool fiberboard increases with volumeweight, temperature, shot content, moisture content. The compression performance of slagwool fiberboard changes with the molding pressure and the amount of added binder. Thevolume water absorption is more than50%, so the water resistance is not very good. Theslag wool fiberboard has a good flame resistance, which belongs to non-combustiblematter.
