As the proverb goes,“Food is the first necessity”. As an appliance of daily use, thebamboo tableware in Sichuan and Chongqing has survived thousands of years over thehandicraft stage supported by agricultural society. As an important component of thetraditional Chinese culture, the bamboo culture with its stability and conservatism has awide range of mass base and far-reaching influence. From the perspectives of the folkvalues, the reason why traditional tableware in Sichuan and Chongqing survived lies inits satisfaction for the material and the spiritual.Recent years, resource, environment and ecological problems triggered byindustrialization has become more and more prominent, which forces people tointrospect the problems and dilemma brought by industrialization and think about theharmonious co-existence of people with animals, nature and society. Faced with minorplace and phasing out form daily use, the bamboo appliance labeled with new materialshas again become a new favorite for the design with its environmental-friendly andsustainable development features. As the center of bamboo culture and a large producerof bamboos, China has focused on the bamboo appliance design but it still lackssystematic analysis and combing of the inheritance and variation. This paper aims atexplaining the value system of bamboo appliance, analyzing the basic characteristicsand model design ideas of bamboo tableware in Sichuan and Chongqing and discussingthe design value of bamboo tableware in Sichuan and Chongqing from the perspectivesof function, model, decoration and design ideas by taking the bamboo appliance designas a single whole, centering on the empirical survey of bamboo appliances in Sichuanand Chongqing and classifying and researching into bamboo appliances in Sichuan andChongqing. Directed at the present situation of bamboo appliances in Sichuan andChongqing, footed in the transformation of production mode, production materials,design subject and major consumers, this paper will systematically analyze mutagenfactors during the development of bamboo tableware in Sichuan and Chongqing, handleand recognize the variables of bamboo appliance design over the process of inheritanceand variation, provide theoretical support for modern design and promote innovation soas to help people set up correct values and benefit the sound development of the wholebamboo appliance design.
