This paper studies the indentation hardness of bamboo and bamboo floor in macroscopicscale based on indentation loading curve, tests the proportion of the elastic work in loading andunloading process and analyses the loading compression process of bamboo by transientdynamics. It finds out the effect of Moso bamboo different test surface, age, different parts, bamboo knot and material structure on the indentation hardness and elastic work. The paperanalyses the stress and strain change rule in the loading compression process of bamboo byusing finite element method. The results are as follows. The indentation loading curve method can test the hardness of small-size samples. It cantest the hardness of Moso bamboo different surfaces including bamboo on end section, radialsection, inner surface and outer surface. It provides certain reference for the establishment ofbamboo hardness test method. The difference of indentation hardness values among bamboo on end section, radialsection, inner surface and outer surface is distinct. Bamboo knot increases the hardness ofbamboo on end section, and decreases the hardness of bamboo on radial section, inner surfaceand outer surface. There is no obvious difference of hardness of bamboo on outer surface atdifferent ages. The age of bamboo has a complicated influence on hardness values amongbamboo on end section, radial section and inner surface. There is no linear law between the ageand the hardness. With the increase of the height of bamboo, the hardness has an increasingtendency among bamboo on end section, radial section and inner surface. The hardness ofbamboo on outer surface first increases with the height, then decreases in the upper part. There is no definited difference of hardness between mono-layer side splicing bamboofloor and composite material laminated bamboo floor. The difference of hardness between themand reconsolidated bamboo floor is distinct. Density and structure of bamboo floor play a roleon indentation hardness of bamboo floor. Bamboo knot decreases the hardness of mono-layerside splicing bamboo floor and composite material laminated bamboo floor, but has nosignificant influence on the hardness. There is no complete correlation between the proportion of elastic work and indentationhardness in the process of loading and unloading. There no corresponding relationship betweenthem. The proportion of elastic work is not used to characterize the indentation hardness ofmaterial. The hardness is the comprehensive representation of mechanical properties of material, and is a complex performance index. The paper analyses the loading compression process of bamboo by transient dynamics based on ANSYS Workbench. The regularities of stress and strain can be obtained by dynamicdisplay in loading process.
