Experimental Study On Recycling For Liquid Crystal Display Panel Glass

Abstract/Summary:
With the rapid development of liquid crystal display technology, LCD displays have occupied a dominant position in the display fields of electronic equipments. However, a large amount of wasted LCD panels appeared with the widespread application of the LCDs at the same time. In addition, due to the complexity of the LCD manufacturing procedure, a lot of substandard products will inevitably be produced during the liquid crystal panels’manufacturing process. How to recycle these wasted or reuse these defective LCD panels effectively is worthy of being studied.For the wasted LCD panels with mechanical damages on the surfaces, a kind of panel glass treating method is raised based on material recycling. The glass powders can be collected by crashing LCD panels, the rare and precious metal indium and the valuable liquid crystal material can also be recycled in the meantime for the purpose of fully utilizing the wasted resources.For the wasted or substandard LCD panels without mechanical damages on the surfaces, a kind of panel glass treating method is presented in the dissertation. With the aid of ultrasonic wave, the frame sealants between the upper glass and the lower glass of the LCD panel can be dissolved effectively by selecting the proper alkaline solutions or acidic solutions. Different layers of the LCD panel can be separated quickly and nondestructively, and the coated layers of ITO on the panel can also be dissolved. So the complete and clean glass substrates can be got and the rare and precious metal of indium can be extracted. Experiments indicate that the wasted LCD panels and the defective LCD panels on the production lines can be recycled efficiently by this method. The new LCD displays can be made of the recycling glass substrates and the recycling value of the wasted and defective LCD panels can be improved greatly.In view of various wasted LCD panels, the recycling model of "cost-profit" is estimated based on material recycling and glass remanufacturing respectively. Economic assessment of the different recycling methods finally confirms that the joint recycling mode is a higher-yielding method.
