Evaluating Of Repellent Activity Of11Essential Oils And Formulation Research

In recent yeas, Essential oil has become the main resource to develop new mosquitorepellent agent. We evaluated repellent activity of11essential oils against Aedes albopictus,try to develop a new essential oil microcapsule ointment for repellent agent. The results wereas follows:(1) Repellent activity of11essential oils against Aedes albopictus Skuse were evaluatedusing “Y”-tube olfactometer. The results showed that4essential oils exhibit good repellentactivity (percent repellency>70%) at the dosage of5μL, in which herba schizonepetae oil wasbest up to98%, followed by cinnamon oil (87.5%), lemongrass oil (76.83%) and peppermintoil (74.90%).(2) Repellent activity of herba schizonepetae oil, cinnamon oil, peppermint oil, lemongrass oil and their mixed oils in2solvents were measured, according to the national standardGB/T13917.9-2009. The results showed that repellent effect of essential oil in soybean oil issuperior to ethanol, meanwhile, soybean oil exhibited a sustained release effect and complexessential oil repellency is better than a single essential oil. Protection time of complexrepellent liquid (10%herba schizonepetae oil,10%cinnamon oil,5%peppermint oil5%lemongrass oil and5%synergist B) could be up to4h. It’s effect was better than11commercial repellent stickers.(3) The preparation technology for Herba schizonepetae oil microcapsule wasinvestigated. The results of four factors-three levels orthogonal experiment indicated thatpreparing microcapsule observed well and encapsulation efficiency reached78.36%, averagediameter was3.21μm, release rate was65%after6h under the conditions of core/wall0.5:1,gelatin/gum arabic ratio1:1, coacervating agent2ml, stirring rate12000rpm.(4) GC/MS analysis showed that the main component of herba schizonepetae oil was3,5,7-Cyclooctatetraene, O-Cymene,3-Carene, α-Terpien and γ-Terpien.(5) Herba schizonepetae oil microcapsule ointment preparations prepared with3different materials were tested against Aedes albopictus Skuse according to the nationalstandard GB/T13917.9-2009. The results showed that the protection period of ointmentpreparations made with white petrolatum, lanolin, polyethylene glycol3280could reach4h.Applying polyethylene glycol3280medium is up to5h, far superior to two commercial repellent ointment.
