Three kinds of novel aromatic amide nucleating agent were designed, synthesized and named as NA2, NA4and NA6, depending on the carbon number in the flexible alkyl chain segments in different structure. Their structures were confirmed by1H-NMR, MS and IR. Their thermal stability and crystal morphology were researched by TGA and SEM. The nucleation efficiency of nucleating agent and the effect of them on the crystallization properties of PP were studied by POM, WXRD and DSC. The results were described as follows.1. The nucleating agent NA2with needle shaped crystal could be used as β-nucleating agent. When it was introduced into PP, it could increase the crystalline rate and induce the formation of corlorful β-PP. The results of DSC experiments showed that NA2could increase the crystallization temperature of PP. The research of isothermal crystallization knits of nucleated PP showed that Avrami value n was between2.54and2.93, which indicated NA2presented an obvious attribute of heterogeneous nucleation.2. The nucleating agent NA4which had banded crystal could be used as α-nucleating agent. When it was introduced into PP, it could refine spherulites and increase the crystalline rate and degree of crystallinity of PP. The research of isothermal crystallization knits of nucleated PP showed that Avrami value n was between2.54and2.74, which indicated NA4presented an obvious attribute of heterogeneous nucleation.3. The nucleating agent NA6which was schistic crystal could act as α-nucleating agent. When it was introduced into PP, it could increase the crystallization temperature and refine spherulites PP. The research of isothermal crystallization knits of nucleated PP showed that Avrami value n was between2.56and2.81, which indicated NA6presented an obvious attribute of heterogeneous nucleation.
