This dissertation includes five chapters. The research progress of the organic electroluminescent materials are reviewed in chapter one; Chapter two is mainly the development of palladium-catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction; Chapter three is the synthesis and photophysical properties of novel fluorescent quinoline-based aryl substituted styryl systems; Chapter four is the synthesis, characterisation and photoluminescent properties of quinoline derivatives containing both a biphenyl group and an a, β-diarylacrylonitrile unit; Chapter five is the preparation of a primer which provides improved adhesion characteristics of metal-to-glass.In chapter one, we made a summary of the discovery, development and application of the organic electroluminescent materials. Then, we described the basic concept, principle of the organic light emitting materials and summarized the different types of them on the basis of the studies in recent years. In chapter two, we reviewed the research progress of palladium-catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction mainly from the development of palladium catalysts’ligands and reaction conditions. In chapter three, we reported the synthesis and photophysical properties of novel fluorescent quinoline-based aryl substituted styryl systems. In chapter four, we synthesized a series of novel acrylonitrile derivatives containing a biphenyl group from2-methylquinoline by the Suzuki coupling reaction. Structures of these compounds were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, MS. The photoluminescent properties of these compounds were investigated through UV-vis absorption and photoluminescent (PL) spectra. Their thermal stability was analysed by TGIn chapter five, we gave a brief account of the coatings and described the preparation of a primer which provided improved adhesion characteristics of metal-to-glass and tested the primer’s performance.
