As versatile reagents, azodicarboxylates have been widely used in amination and cyclization reactions in organic synthesis due to their unique properties, which have played very important roles in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. From the point of synthetic chemistry, to find the new reactions based on the azodicarboxylates has important theoretical significance and application value.According to previous researches, this paper reported that the regioselective dehydrogenation of functional aliphatic tertiary amines and subsequent coupling with sulfonyl azides promoted by diethyl azodicarboxylate. As the staring materials do not need prefunctional substrates, the procedure is simple, convenient and atom economic. This paper also reported the oxidative coupling reactions of imidazole derivatives and azodicarboxylates. First a new zwitterion may be formed and then gave a very useful nitrogen heterocyclic carbene. After several steps of transformations,2-alkoxylcarbonyl products were obtained.
