In the process of gear-grinding machining, gear’s wear and fatigue strength isdramatically decreased by grinding burn, which seriously affects the usingperformance of a gear. The key technology of gear machining is to solve the problemof grinding burn. Due to a lot of heat generated in the process of gear grindingtransmitting to tooth surface layers, too much grinding heat is the main cause ofgrinding burn. Therefore, it is very necessary to research on grinding temperature field.Based on gear form grinding process in this paper, the temperature field has beencomprehensively and systematically researched. By the use of moving heat sourcetheory, the temperature field for gear form grinding has been simulated with acomputer. The main tasks which have been done are as follows.Firstly, based on the technology of gear form grinding process, the relationshipbetween grinding temperature and grinding burn was investigated, and the mechanismof grinding burn was discussed. The temperature field was theoretically analyzed, andthe formula for estimating the maximum temperature of grinding gear surface wasdeduced.Secondly, the relationship between gear form grinding and surface grinding wasresearched, and according to the grinding force formula of surface grinding, thegrinding force formula of gear form grinding was deduced. The machining experimentof gear form grinding was performed on the NC gear form grinding machine. Theelectric spindle’s power was measured for different grinding parameters, and theexperimental formula of tangential grinding force was deduced by Jiaozhengregressing method, then modifying it.Thirdly, based on the law of conservation of energy, dry and wet grindingtemperature field mathematical models were built. According to moving heat sourcetheory, the temperature distributions of tooth surface were analyzed by softwareANSYS under two kinds of grinding methods dry and wet grindings, and variations ofthe grinding temperature followed with time were researched. Finally, the influences of grinding parameters on temperature field were researched. For different grinding parameters, the transient changes of temperature followed with time were stimulated by software ANSYS. The effects of different grinding parameters on grinding temperature were eventually obtained.According to the theoretical analysis and finite element simulation of the temperature field for gear form grinding, the area in which grinding burn easily occurs in the process of grinding can be found, change rule of temperature field in the process of gear grinding can be got, and qualitative analysis of grinding temperature field has been primarily realized. This study is of great significance, which can realize the previous forecast adjustment and optimization of gear form grinding process so as to avoid the occurrence of grinding burn.
