In the design process of injection mold, the design of the cooling system is veryimportant since its results can directly affects production efficiency and quality of theproducts. However, there are some problems in existing cooling system design module.For example, it relies too much on designers’ experience and has low degree ofintelligence. To solve the above problem, a design system of cooling system, based on theCAD/CAE integration, is developed in this paper in the background of the cooperationproject between Huazhong University of Science&Technology State Key Lab ofMaterials Processing and Die&Mould Technology, HUST, and Dongjiang Technology(Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.Firstly, this paper analyzes the design process of the cooling system and the datastorage structure of the CAE cooling system structure, according to which a CAD/CAEintegration model of cooling system containing geometric modeling data and finiteelement engineering attribute data is proposed and the integration model is constructed.Based on this model, a design system of cooling system is designed, the overallframework of this system is constructed, and the design process of it is described.After that, cooling system design knowledge base is studied in this paper andrule-based reasoning (RBR) is adopted. By calling the knowledge base, this systemprovides knowledge of guidelines to design of cooling system, which achieves thereasoning in the initial arrangement of the cooling circuit and the editing process. As aresult, the Degree of intelligence in the cooling system design is improved.At last, this paper studies the CAD/CAE integrative modeling of cooling system, andintroduces the process and method of integrative modeling. What is more, in order toexpand the scope of application of this integrated system to non-parametric model, whichis not be aided designed by this system, feature recognition technology has been studied.The common form of injection mould cooling system has been summarized. After that, thetopological relationships and geometric constraints among elements constituting thecharacteristics structure of the cooling system has been converted into a set of inference rules. On this basis, a feature recognition and CAE model reconstruction method ofcooling system, which is based on graph, is proposed.On the basis of the results of the above study, a design system of cooling system,based on the CAD/CAE integration model, is developed, and the system function is brieflyintroduced by an application instance, which proved the effectiveness and feasibility of thesystem.
