Intelligent Design Of Plastic Injection Mold Gating System Based On CAD/CAE Integrated

In the whole injection mold design process, the design of gating system is veryimportant. The rationality of gating system design will directly affect the flow state of theplastic melt in filling, and then affect the surface quality, shape, size and physicalproperties of the products. At present, the design of gating system mostly depends on thedesigner’s experience and the design and analysis process is independent, which causesthe problem of low design efficiency and degree of intelligence, waste of resources, andlack of design evaluation mechanisms and so on in gating system design. To solve theabove problem, an intelligent design prototype system of gating system based on theCAD/CAE integration is developed in the paper in the background of the cooperationproject between Huazhong University of Science&Technology material forming andmold technology state key laboratory and Dongjiang Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.The traditional gating system design process is firstly analyzesed in the paper. For theshortage of the current application of CAD and CAE technologies in gating system design,a CAD/CAE integration model of gating system which contains geometric modeling dataand finite element characteristics attribute data is raised and the integration model isconstructed. An intelligent design system of gating system based on CAD/CAE integrationmodel is designed, the overall framework of the system is constructed and the designprocess is described.To solve the problem of low degree of intelligence of gating system design, thegating system design Knowledge Base is constructed based on the knowledge of gatingsystem design. By calling the Knowledge Base, the system provides knowledge guidelinesfor gating system design, which improve the degree of intelligence of gating system.In order to achieve the intelligent design system, an idea of CAD/CAE integrationmodeling of gating system is raised, the process and implementation techniques ofintegration modeling is introduced, and the extraction process of finite element model iselaborated.On the basis of the results of the above study, an intelligent design prototype systemof gating system based on the CAD/CAE integration model is developed in the paper, and the system function is briefly introduced by an application instance, which proved theeffectiveness and feasibility of the system.
