Graphene oxide has attracted considerable attention for its special two-dimensionalplane structure and excellent performance such as high conductivity, heat resistance andvery high mechanical properties. In this dissertation, the prepation and functionalization ofGraphene oxide and its application in the MC nylon were detailed studied.Graphite oxide was prepared through the Hummers method using natural graphite.Graphite oxide was characterized using FTIR, XRD, and elemental analysis. The resultsshowed that the surface of graphene oxide prepared by Hummers method is rich inoxygen-containing functional groups, the layer spacing of graphite oxide increased from0.34nm to0.85nm and the ratio of C/O atom is1.28.Modified grapheme oxide was prepared by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide.Modified grapheme oxide was characterized using FTIR, and XRD. The results showedcetyltrimethylammonium bromide successful insertion to grapheme oxide the lamella andmake its layer spacing expanded from0.85nm to1.12nm.The MC nylon/modified grapheme oxide nanocomposites were prepared in situpolymerization in the present of modified grapheme oxide nanosheets. The influence ofmodified grapheme oxide on the mechanical properties, wear resistance and thermalproperties was investigated. The impact strength of the composite material is increased by3times with only0.2wt%modified graphene oxide, and the tensile strength and hardnessunchanged. The coefficient of friction and wear volume of the composite were lower thanthat of pure nylon77%and68%respectively with0.1wt%modified grahene oxiderespectively. The crystallization temperature of the composite improved by8°C andmelting temperature increased by2°C, the degree of crystallinity of the composite materialwas improved.MC nylon/modified graphene oxide nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR,XRD and SEM. The results showed that there is a strong interfacial interaction betweenmodified graphene oxide and MC nylon, the crystal morphology of MC nylon was notchanged by modified grapheme oxide, but it has a certain extent affect to the lattice size ofMC nylon. Nanoparticle had a fairly good interface bonding with the MC nylon matrix. The preparation process of MC nylon/modified graphene oxide nanocomposites wasstudied, the results showed that the composite exhibited the best mechanical properties when the content of NaOH and TDI was0.4wt%and0.5wt%repectively. Modifiedgraphene oxide inhibited the polymerization of caprolactam, and the increasing of thecontent of TDI can reduce the inhibition.
