With the development of economy, H-beam has been widely used in our country. Inorder to meet the demand of the market and produce a high standard, high quality ofH-beam, we must improve the rigidity of the rolling mill and the precision of the rolling.The short stress path rolling mill is a kind of high rigidity without stand mill, which hasthe advantages of great capacity of rolling, high rigidity, small weight and size, compactstructure, short time of roll changing and long life of bearing. So it becomes very popularin domestic and overseas steal plants. In recent years, almost all precision rolling parts ofthe newly-built small production line adopt short stress path rolling mill. On the base oftwo-high rolling mill of Danieli, the short stress path of universal rolling mill redesigns thestructure, which includes horizontal roller press-down device, horizontal roller axialadjusting device, bearing seating self-recovery mechanism, drag-link mechanism, bearingseating, etc., and joins the vertical roll system. These make it become a reasonablestructure of the high rigidity universal mill.To achieve the aim of serializable designing of rolling mill, reduce a lot of repetitionin the designing work, and improve the efficiency of designing, this paper study thefunction and structure of the short stress path of universal rolling mill, and the variantdesign system of the universal rolling mill is established on the panel of CAD softwareSolidWorks2009by using Visual Basic6.0. In this system, the3-D models are built in thedevelopment environment of SolidWorks software, and realize products models selection,3-D parametric modeling, automatic assembly, and engineering drawing’s automaticachieving, which can significantly improve the design efficiency and reduce the designcost.This article elaborates the method of parametric design system and has a verydetailed explanation on the important of SolidWorks API function. At the last part, take theprocess of designing of universal rolling mill as example, which demonstrates operatingprocess and use of the universal rolling mill parametric system. Finally, it provides acertain reference value example for parametric design of similar mechanical products.
