This paper mainly discusses the application of diatomite in the papermakingindustry-Diatomaceous earth was used as resin adsorbent in renewable fiber, the dope ofcoated paper and the padding of light weight printed paper.The problem of the gooey is the mainly influencing factors when the waste paper wasreused. Resin adsorbent is used for absorbing the gooey by the way of being added, in orderto reduce the influence of the gooey during the process of paper making. The experimentationis composed by the detection in the laboratory and the actual production in the factory. Thepaint of coated paper was composed by the white paint (such as Kaolin, Calcium carbonate,French chalk etc.), the adhesives (such as Polyvinyl Alcohol, casein, Synthetic latex,Modified Starch etc.) and other accessorial additives. Light paper is a substitute production ofoffset painted paper. According to the production process of the light paper, because thediatomite specific gravity is lighter than other padding, we design the discussion and theoptimized test. We found that the diatomaceous earth can substitute some APMP pulp, if itdoesn’t affect the physical properties of the light paper.After the experiment, we are sure that the diatomite which is added in the paper makingprocess can reduce the influence of the gooney, DCS of machine water content and help theretention and filtration. The filter speed was increased25.8%and19.4%; CODcr reduced69.8%and51.7%by used good and normal diatomite. The paper ash content augments;fracture length, laniate index and sizability were reduced when the diatomite dosage addedincreased. It si proved that the costs can be saved3.9yuan by2.0%diatomite was added. Itwas used very well in the factory at present.We make sure the kind and dosage of dispersant, and the adhesive system by the way ofthe test of the dope’s viscosity and water-retention capacity. The optimum dosage of thesodium metaphosphate is0.05%while the diatomite’s solidity is40%. The viscosity andmoisture retention are increased by the dosage of the PVA, CMC and starch is increased. Thediatomite’s solidity and moisture retention are equivalent to the kaolines. But the viscosity ofthe diatomite is higher than kaolines. It can be used to produce specialty paper for the diatomite’s fine performance of the adsorbent. The deodorization capability of coated paperthat is painted the diatomite is that the quantity of adsorbing ammonia can reach0.763(μg/m2)in72hours.We test the physical properties of the paper which has been added calcium carbonate ordiatomaceous earth. We analyze the best add volume that mixed calcium carbonate anddiatomaceous earth. After the test we finally confirm that the APMP pulp is the main factorwhich influences the physical properties of the light paper. It could not be substituted toomuch by padding. According to the optimized test, we found that it could also keep the lightpaper’s quality standard when the APMP pulp was reduced by1percent and added diatomiteby2percent. This way has got across the economy benefit account. It can produce fine lightpaper with69%APMP pulp,16%~20%calcium carbonate and6%~2%diatomite.
