Springback constraints the dimensional accuracy, die design, the cost and the production efficiency, and it was one of the hot spots and difficulties in metal and plastic processing research. Springback is a universal phenomenon in sheet metal forming process as well as profile. The front bracket of generator air duct was obtained by L-section steel press bending. The forming is difficult, and the springback is one of defects. This study is about finite element analysis and springback prediction of the press bending of L-section steel part., the FEM mode was established by using numerical simulation software DYNAFORM according to process parameters, and with the experimental data, model boundary conditions was corrected so as to prove the reliability of the simulation results, and the process was improved for the defects in simulation.Because empirical formula is about the plate, there are errors in calculating profile springback with empirical formula and the die design data of the press manual in the profile bending die designs. In the absence of accurate data to guide, make profile bending die design difficult, and increase costs of production. The springback formula of plate in the manual was amended based on test and FEA, and the relative bending radius coefficient C was introduced, and the plate thickness/was replaced with flange height H. The amended formula was better used in calculating the springback of equal angle steels. With designing orthogonal test scheme, the effect of each factor trend and degree on L-section springback was analyzed. Orthogonal test data was input to the software MATLAB with regression analysis to get the multivariate linear regression equation about the effect factors, and the equation was rearranged to a formula to predict the curvature radius of punch for L-section press bending: Where, Ro—Curvature radius of punch; R’—Curvature radius of workpiece; σ5—Material yield strength; k—Material hardening coefficient;—Width of web; H—Height of flange. It has a good reliability in the producing. To sum up, the result are useful in die design and producing,so as to decrease the times of trying dies, reduce the cost and improve the efficiency.
