At present, the CNC machine tools development direction of high-speed, high-precision. Turret is one of the core features of the CNC lathes, CNC machine tools to achieve automatic tool change by rotation of the turret head, indexing, positioning, and its structure and properties directly affect the reliability, stability and efficiency of the whole machine running. The size positioning accuracy of turret directly influences the quality of machined parts, at the same time, it is also an important performance indicator of CNC turret, In the previous, electric turret and hydraulic turret, positioning is rely on the proximity switch, this positioning has low precision, easy to damage and other shortcomings, which can not to meet the requirements of CNC machine tools on the core features. Servo turret uses servo motor for indexing, compared with the traditional hydraulic turret and electric turret, has stable performance, translocation speed, high precision indexable, easy maintenance, etc., correspond the trend of today’s NC machine tools toward the development of high-speed, high-precision direction..The subject relying on the Dalian Machine Tool Group, use TB120servo turret which produces by Italian Baruffaldi company production as a control object, the PMC of Fanuc Oi CNC system built to control the core, And DMS08-BF module as servo drives, conducts the hardware and software design of servo turret system. Firstly, it analyzes the structure of the various types of CNC turret tool change principle and other features, determines the model of the turret. Secondly, according to the design requirements, it researchs the servo motor and drive system, determines the model of servo drive module and designs of the hardware circuit. Finally, it analyzes the composition of the programmable machine controller, type and working principle, executes the software system design and development, given signal interface address, drawing the turret tool change operation flowchart, and establishments the PMC control program. Experimentally validated, this servo turret to meet the requirements of CNC machine tools on the core features, has a high value in engineering applications.
