Coordination polymers based on the variety of coordination modes of aromatic multi-carboxylic ligands through self-assembly have been received more and more interest duo to their potential application in many fields. We have successfully designed a tricarboxylate ligand,2,4-bis-carboxymethoxy-benzoic acid(H3L). Which possesses one rigid carboxyl group and two flexible carboxyl groups, and we designed and synthesized seven complexes under solvothermal and hydrothermal reactions by using2,4-bis-carboxymethoxy-benzoic acid(H3L) as first ligand,4,4’-bipyridine (Bipy) or1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) as auxiliary ligand:Namely [Cd3(L)2(phen)2](1),[Mn3(L)2(phen)2](2),[CdNa(L)(phen)](3),[ZnNa(L)(H2O)]·H2O (4),[Cd2(L)2(H2O)2]·9H2O (5),[Mn2(L)(OH)]·2H2O (6),[ZnNa(L)](7). Significantly, these complexes exhibit interesting double-edge structural and dimensional diversity. Compounds1-2are isostructural and feature a one-dimensional chain motif composed of an (M3)2L2-[M=Cd, Mn]macroring as the based building block. Compounds3presents an similar one-dimensional construction to1based on mixed tetranuclear metal [Zn2Na2]6+clusters. Compounds4and5form a novel chiral and acentric non-interpenetrating two-dimensional network consisting of right-and left-handed helical ML chains, respectively, Compound6adopts a unique non-interpenetrating (3,4,7)-two-dimensional wave framework, in which the inorganic metal chains are connected to each other through unsymmetric L3-ligands. Compound7have a interesting three-node (3,4,7)-3D topological network consisted of Zn and Na metal.Photoluminescence studies indicate that the complexes may be excellent candidates for potential photoactive materials. And the DNA-binding property of the complexes was investigated by spectrophotometric methods. The results show that the complexes bind to DNA in intercalation modes.
