This subject aims to prepare a kind of adhesive, which can be used in the manufacture oflaminated safety glasses. It can meet all performance requirements and reduce the cost at thesame time.Polyethylene glycol400and methyl acrylic acid were selected to react with epoxy E-44successively to prepare prepolymer of epoxy acrylate resin. After the determination of epoxyconversion rate and acid value, suitable preparation conditions were confirmed thoughsingle-factor experiments: modification temperature choosed90℃, the esterificationtemperature was95℃, the dosage of polyethylene glycol400and molar ratio of epoxy resinwas0.20:1, the catalyst was chosen tetrabutyl ammonium bromide and the dosage was2wt%,inhibitor was chosen methoxyphenol and the dosage was0.05wt%, solvent was chosen butylacrylate and the dosage was50wt%, the reaction time was3hours. After reaction, the viscosityof prepolymer was greatly reduced from938mPa·s to265mPa·s, the toughness enhanced, andthe peel strength increased. After contrast of IR spectra, the disappearing of epoxy groups andappearing hydroxyl groups showed the success of modification reaction.KMnO4-H2SO4solution was used in chemical method to treat the surface of PET. A welltreatment condition was confirmed by single factor experiments: the concentration ofKMnO4-H2SO4solution was2g/L, and the treating time was2minutes. With these condition,PET’ light transmittance stayed beyond95%, and the bonding properties of it enhanced.Contact angle test showed that the chemical treatment made the surface contact angle reducefrom66.8°to17.5°. IR analysis showed that after modifying PET surface introduced asignificant number of carbonyl and carboxyl. SEM analysis showed many nano-sized particlesand long-thin groove mark appeared on the surface of modified PET. These illustrated thatchemical treating obviously effected on PET’s surface.Though single factor experiments of various components of adhesive, the optimum dosageof plasticizer, coupling agent, chain transfer agent, modified prepolymers, soft and hardmonomer was confirmed. The best adhesive formula was made by means of orthogonalexperiments. Under the best formula, when using modified PET chip, the main performanceindexes were satisfied. Tensile shear properties could be up to5.96MPa,180°peel strengthalso reached42.36N/cm, light transmittance was92.31%, adhesive curing time was40s, theviscosity before curing was only118mPa·s.Compared with the precursors, the subject introduced surface treating of PET, usedcheaper material of epoxy. The tensile shear properties increased because of epoxy, and the180°peel strength reached the expected goal.
