The technologies of manufacturing seamless steel are complicate, the pipe-rolling mills arevarious and the specifications of pipe are great of variety. How to further strengthen the qualitycontrol in each production process of making seamless pipe, enhance the quality of products,meet the requirements of customers and improve the competitiveness of the enterprise, whichhave become the development trend of steel tube production.This paper studies the internal crack of27SiMn pipe in Φ720plant (Pilger mill). First, thesamples and dates from the production site are analyzed. Then, a systematic analysis for thepossible causes of the crack is developed. Through these analyses, it is found that the internalcrack of27SiMn pipe in this plant is mainly attributed to the big thermal stress resulted fromunreasonable heating process of rotary heating furnace. A modeling of heating the tube billet inthe rotary heating furnace is established adopting finite element analysis-Abaqus. Thermalanalysis is carried out to get the temperature field distribution and hot-structure coupling fieldanalysis is conducted to obtain the stress field distribution. By analyzing the distribution oftemperature field and stress field, the27SiMn tube billet heating system has been optimized. Theresults of analysis provide certain theoretic bases for designing the heating process of rotaryheating furnace.
