Flotation behavior of ultrafine hematite and the effect of five types of regulators(sodiumhexametaphosphate, sodium silicate, sodium pyro-phosphate,starch,sodium humate) onultrafine hematite recovery in two kinds of flotation system are researched. The hematiteflotation mechanism was determined by surface potential measurement, infrared spectrumanalysis and solution chemistry calculation. The results indicated that ultrafine hematite reaches to good floatability when thecollector is sodium oleate, oleic acid, hydroximic acid and sodium hydroxamate express a weakflotation on ultrafine hematite. The five types of regulators all have obvious depression onultrafine hematite flotation,In the flotation system of NAOL,organic regulators have a betterdepression effect than inorganic regulators, and the depression effects of the five regulators arein the order of starch>sodium humate>sodium pyro-phosphate>sodium hexametaphosphate>sodium silicate. In the other system, inorganic regulators have a better depression effectthan organic regulators, and the depression effects of the five regulators are in the order ofsodium pyro-phosphate>sodium silicate>sodium hexametaphosphate>starch>sodiumhumate. The absolute value of dynamic potential results show that, with the increase of the pHvalue, surface potential of hematite fines descend; In addition, adding two kinds of collectorswill make the point of zero charge of hematite greatly decreased during the whole range of pH;Three kinds of inorganic regulators make the point of zero charge of hematite acidicmigration, their adsorption belong to ionic adsorption.Infrared spectrum analysis and solution chemistry calculation shows that when hematiteflotation use sodium oleate and benzyl hydroxamic acid, collector adsorb on hematite surfacein the form of ion-molecule associated complex and ion-molecule co-adsorption.The twokinds of collectors have a relatively stong adsorption on the surface of hematite, and mainlybeing chemical adsorption.
