Garment’s waterproof performance is an important indicator in the garment’s evaluation field, especially for outdoor clothing and some professional protective clothing. In our country, the waterproof performance testing instruments are commonly used for waterproof fabrics. However, there little research in garment’s waterproof detection instruments. Meanwhile, the current clothing waterproof performance evaluation standards in our country is imperfect, thus it cannot evaluate the waterproof property objectively and comprehensively. The European standard EN14360-2004presents a garment’s waterproof performance testing method by use a manikin in a simulated outdoor rain environment. In this standard, the garment compliance is checked by sensing whether the flooding occurred on the garment, but for the amount and part of flooding, the standard doesn’t give the appropriate elaboration.Therefore, based on the EN14360-2004standard test method, this essay established a waterproof test platform which using image processing method to identify the garment is waterproof or not, extract the appropriate wet area and determine the wet part. In the paper, the Author present the key steps and methods on how to achieve these functions in detail. The main study contents of this essay are as follows:(1).Based domestic and foreign research results, the essay proposed the platform design, in which the design divided into hardware design, image pretreatment, wet area measurement wet part location.(2).In the wet area measurement model, for the exits of wrinkle on the surface of garments part will seriously affect the extracted area value, this essay proposed a correction algorithm. Experiments results show that using the area correction algorithm can effectively reduce the area measurement error caused by fabric folds. The measurement error drops from about11%to about7%.(3).In the wet part location model, the essay proposed a wet part location algorithm. The algorithm divided the different parts on the standard template firstly, and then established the correspondence between standard template and the image we are using. Through this way, the wet part can be located on the garment. Experiments results show that the algorithm can identify the garment permeable portion quickly and effectively. And base on the algorithm, the test system be able to give a more precise wet area of each permeable part, this can aid a powerful help to evaluate the garment’s waterproof performance.(4).Implement the appropriate detection algorithm by C++, and use this program conduce a number of tests. The experimental data suggests that the waterproof performance testing platform achieve all the functions required. The test platform has successful achieve the predetermined functions, and use this test platform, the data obtained have been proven true and valid.The waterproof testing platform achieves the require functions and can detect the waterproof performance automatically. The successful development of the system proves that using image process method in this system is feasible and the results we get from the system can be a valuable reference for the actual production and it also lays a solid foundation for the system’s further promotion and automatic inspection.
