As the key equipment in chemical industry, vibration control of valve tray column using Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) has certain theoretical and practical meanings. The studies of SMA applied on vibration control focus on the design of dampers and the control of structures of buildings, which means that the study of vibration control of column is few, thus, the related research in this thesis has particular innovation.Active and passive vibration control of valve tray column are discussed and simulated through ANSYS and MATLAB in this thesis.Firstly, based on the latest articles published, the methods of vibration control of column are unfolded in this thesis. After the study of Liang-Rogers one-dimensional constitutive relations for Shape Memory Alloy, methods of Shape Memory Alloy used on column vibration control is discussed in this article.Secondly, using the shape memory alloy damper designed by other researcher, passive control effectiveness of Shape Memory Alloy dampers that are fixed on a certain valve tray column responded to seismic and wind vibration is simulated, and also compared with normal damper by finite element analysis software ANSYS. It is demonstrated that SMA damper is better than normal damper. Then, Newmark method program is written in MATLAB, and the effectiveness of active control by Shape Memory Alloy dampers is studied initially. Though above analysis and simulation, it is shown that Shape Memory Alloy has certain effects on active vibration control of valve tray column. The above analysis provide a new method for the vibration control of column equipment,it is also demonstrated that Shape Memory Alloy has certain effects on vibration control of valve tray column.
