Compression arc as a new and high energy density arc welding arc form, receivedextensive attention of the welding workers in recent years. Compared with the traditionalfree-arc welding methods (such as TIG welding), compression arc welding method (such asTwin-electrode tungsten argon arc welding and hollow tungsten electrode argon arc welding)has high energy arc heat source, meanwhile it can guarantee to get high quality welding seamand also can improve the efficiency of welding. The welding of arc is a very complicatedprocess, and compression arc is added on the basis of the traditional free arc more complexelectromagnetic coupling and contraction. Conventional experimental methods on theresearch of the mechanism arc has certain limitations. In this paper, it use the finite elementsoftware ANSYS to compression of the physics of arc plasma for numerical simulationanalysis.First of all, based on the TIG welding arc as the research object of free arc, it simulatedthe freedom of the arc. To the arc simulation to make corresponding basic assumptions, establish the control equations, the calculation area load corresponding boundary conditions,it simulate the real freedom arc process and calculate the free arc temperature field, currentdensity and electromagnetic force distribution of physical quantities. On this basis, respectively, as Twin-electrode tungsten argon arc welding and hollowtungsten electrode argon arc welding arc for compression arc the research object, has carriedon the numerical simulation to compress the arc plasma. The simulation results werecalculated with the freedom to do a comparative analysis of the arc. The result show that:under the same welding parameters, arc compression of the physical parameters ofelectromagnetic coupling degree than free arc more intense; at the same time, under the condition of the same welding current, arc compression output of arc pressure is smaller thanarc pressure of the free arc lot. Based on free arc and compress numerical simulation analysisof arc, it found that the results of numerical simulation and experimental measurements showconsistent, for the compression arc welding parameter optimization and delve intocompression arc mechanism laid a good foundation.
