In process of machining, cutting fluid is usually used to extend tool life, lower cuttingtemperature, enhance surface finish quality and machining efficiency. If the traditional cuttingfluid used improperly, it is not only the adverse effects on the environment and health, butalso increases the cost of production. With the advancement of technology, the enhancementof environmental awareness and the increasingly stringent environmental regulations, thenegative influence that the traditional cutting fluid application brought can not be ignored. Therefore, as the focus of attention in manufacture field in the21t hcentury, the research ofgreen cutting technique has been research emphasis in each country. As Oils on water (OoW)cutting fluid is pollution-free, eco-friendly and no recovery, OoW cutting fluid as coolants andlubricants belongs to a new type of green cutting technology. It works by using compressedair after a small amount of water and minuteness of natural degradation of vegetable oil in aspecial full atomization nozzle, forming atomized jet sprayed into the cutting zone.Firstly, this paper introduce the classification, function, supply method of cutting fluidand the treatment of cutting fluid wastewater. And then expounds the forming mechanism ofOoW cutting fluid, and the measurement of droplet’s resistance proved the forming effect ofOoW cutting fluid. Then, through the establishment of heat transfer model between atomizedjet with high temperature surface, analysis has been carried out that OoW cutting fluid has theeffect of cooling and lubrication. In the end, OoW on water cutting fluid as coolants andlubricants are used to experiment in the lathe. The results show that, compared with drycutting method and oil water emulsion cutting method, OoW can reduce the tool wear and thecutting force. From theoretical analysis and experimental results, OoW cutting fluid during machiningcan reduce the cutting temperature and cutting force, extend tool life, and improve theworking environment, so OoW cutting fluid has broad application prospect as a kind of greencutting technology.
