With the development of society and the advancement of science and technology, theunderstanding and demands to environmental protection of people are becoming deeper andhigher. So our country introduced laws and regulations to protect the environment. In order tomeet the growing demands of environmental protection, the manufacturing industry has tochange their traditional machining method and promote the application of greenmanufacturing technology.Cooling and lubrication technology of Oils on Water (OoW) is an emerging greenmanufacturing technology. It used water as cooling medium and used naturally degradablevegetable oil as lubricating medium. Under the effect of air with the high pressure andvelocity, the Oils on Water cutting fluid was formed after fully atomized and mixed of oil andwater. Oils on Water cutting fluid consumed a little bit oils and water, but its effect of coolingand lubrication was highly significant, so cooling and lubrication technology of Oils on Wateris a green manufacturing technology with great broad application potentials.Based on the fluid mechanics, theory of fluid atomization and nozzle design theory, akind of Oils on Water atomizing nozzle with multi-section and composite structure wasdesigned. Fluent was applied on simulating and analyzing the inner flow on nozzle. The resultshowed that the structure of nozzle can increase the pressure and relative velocity of the fluid,and it favorable for breakup and atomizing of flow. So it is concluded that the multi-sectionand composite structured nozzle designed in the paper has good atomization effects.In the last of the paper, an experiment study on cutting performance of cooling andlubrication technology of Oils on Water in turning45#steel,1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel and45#tempered steel was performed. The result showed that when turning45#steel and1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel, the cutting force has significantly decreased and the processedsurface has significantly improved compared with other cooling and lubrication methods; when turning45#tempered steel and1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel, the wear of tools hassignificantly reduced and the durability of tools has significantly increased compared withother cooling and lubrication methods; when turning45#tempered steel and45#steel, thechips has no visible color change.In summary, cooling and lubrication technology of Oils on Water can effectively reducethe generation of cutting heat and can timely release the heat in cutting area, so its effect ofcooling and lubrication was good.
