Non-circular gears transmit motion and power of any two axes in the form of variable transmission ratio, and they combine the advantages of cylindrical gear and cam in one, therefore the application of non-circular gears is increasingly common, and the manufacturing technology of non-circular gears becomes easier and easier with the development of CNC technology. But measuring technology of non-circular gears is still no uniform industry standards, to some extent, it has been a great restriction that measuring level will obstruct the development of non-circular gears. Therefore, it is of great significance that a reasonable measurement method proposed to non-circular gears machining error.After reading a series of books and relevant literature about non-circular gears of domestic and abroad, this paper proposed a method to measure non-circular gears, cross-bar distance measurement. This method is applied after calculating a series of cross-bars which have certain diameters. Different error indicators of non-circular gears will be measured by different cross-bar at different positions in contact with non-circular gears gullet. The subject comes from the National Natural Science Fund Project "Meshing characteristics and digital machining and theoretical studies of Pascal gears (ID:51265023)."Firstly, this paper started from machining errors of non-circular gears,and analyzed typical error of non-circular gears which impacted by hobbing cutter. Then, creating a mathematical model about cross-bar distance measurement of non-circular gear. Defining the diameters of cross-bars and the specific measuring method of error items of non-circular gears. Selected oval gears to set a measuring mathematical model, used CAD technology to have analog measurement and compare the measured data with the theoretical data to obtain corresponding measurement accuracy. Finally, using Pro/E to establish a three-dimensional model of cross-bar distance measuring equipment of non-circular gear, and check physical parts of the whole assembly to verify it whether interfere or not. In the environment of Pro/E to simulate key institutions work to verify the reasonableness of whole mechanism. Finally, to use Workbench to make analysis module of some parts for the static and to verify the actual manufacture of its stiffness and provides technical parameters.Through the study of cross-bar distance measurement of non-circular gear, determining the error indicators and methods. To use Pro/E to establish three-dimensional model of measuring equipment, and analyze motion and modal analysis of key institution to verify its legitimacy. Studies have shown that the method of cross-bar distance measurement of non-circular gear is feasible and of high efficiency, the measuring device has a simple structure to easily control.
