Micro-structured surfaces have the regular arrangement and the large aspectratios. In recent years, they are widely used in the fields of optics, tribology andbiomedicine. Micro-structured surfaces have now become a research emphasis andhotspot in the related research fields. At this stage, the microstructure processingtechnology has made a substantial progress. However, how to control the size of themicrostructure morphology is still a problem. Sorting the existing research and theory,this article puts forward the FTS machining method and obtains the micro-structuredsurfaces on the cylindrical surface. In this paper, a relatively complete processmethod is formed. Finally, a high-precision and low-cost micro-structure surface isachieved.In order to process the micro-structured surfaces with high precision, a FTSvibration cutting device is designed in this paper. Piezoelectric actuator is used todriving the apparatus, a capacitive displacement sensor is used to detecting thedisplacement output, and a flexible hinge is used to outputting the systemdisplacement. After finite element simulation and off-line test, the stiffness of thedevice is10.85N/μm, the natural frequency is110.625Hz, and the maximμm outputdisplacement is45μm. The results can meet the experimental requirements.To make the system output more stable signal,this paper presents a method foroptimizing the PID parameters on the basis of the step response curve. Finally thePID parameter values of the system are140,2.3and3.4, respectively. In order toreduce the experimental error, the rotation error of machine tool spindle is measured.In the radial direction, the largest run-out error of the machine tool spindle is1.26μm;in the axial direction, the largest run-out error of the machine tool spindle is3.53μm.After conducting the environmental testing, a series of micromachiningexperiments is carried out on the outer surface of the workpiece. The size of themicrostructure is ranging between5μm to800μm. In the variable frequencyexperiments, the minimum error of the micro-structure is1.67%and the maximumerror is14.45%; in the variable spindle speed test, the minimum error of the micro-structure is1.46%and the maximum error is17.20%; changing the material inthe experiments, obtained the minimum error of the microstructure is0.35%, and themaximum error is37.58%. The hardness of the workpiece does not being consideredduring processing, this is the most important reason to generate experimental error.Finally, the changing rules of the micro-structured surface are obtained when thecutting parameters are changed.
