Light-emitting materials are specially utilized for the manufacture ofphotovoltaic materials, which include passive and active optoelectronic sensors, optoelectronic processing and storage devices and optical communicating devices. Itincludes infrared materials, laser materials, optical materials and nonlinear opticalmaterials classified according to use. Also, it can be devided into inorganiclight-emitting materials, small-molecule organic light-emitting materials and polymerlight-emitting materials.Comparing with inorganic light-emitting materials and small-molecule organiclight-emitting materials, polymer light-emitting materials have the advantages asfollows:(1) Films are easily formed by spin coating or casting;(2) Excellent thermal and chemical stability;(3) Adjustment of the color is easily performed by adjusting the structure of themolecules.(4) Thin films are easier obtained so that lower driving voltage is needed fordesired field strength. This thesis described two kinds of light-emitting polymer materials containingcarbazole units.(1) We synthesized a series of novel poly(arylene ether ketone)s (PAEK) scontaining pendent carbazoles via condensation of4,4’-difluorodiphenyl methanone,4,4’-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol (bisphenol AF) and(4-(3-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenoxy)propyl)phenyl)(2,6-difluorophenyl)methanone.The polymers were then characterized by using differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA),1H NMR,13C NMR, FT-IR, UV-visible and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The polymers have exhibited good thermalstability and high glass transition temperatures (Tg). Meanwhile, the polymers showgood solubility in common organic solvents. The resulting polymers containingcarbazole moieties exhibited green emission in CHCl3.(2) We synthesized a series of poly(arylene ether ketone)s containing iodine, andcarbazole groups were attached onto the PAEK backbone. First we synthesized2-(4-iodophenyl) hydroquinone as one of the monomers. Then, co-polymerizationwas performed with2-(4-iodophenyl) hydroquinone,4,4’-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol and4,4’-difluorodiphenyl methanone. Thepolymers were characterized and tested as was described above. The polymers alsoshow good thermal stability and good solubility. Photoluminescence spectroscopyshowed that the polymers exhibited green emission.
