The thesis originated in one subject of Oil Shale Project—the development of theoil shale surface production system. It’s aimed at extracting oil through mechanicalequipment and then separation, measurement, storage. According to the survey,pumping unit was the main oil production equipment.The oil shale as an alternative resources with its huge reserves had been receivedmore and more attention. Relying on the oil shale project, the article had designed anew style of chain pumping unit in line with the purpose of saving energy. It wasaccomplished on the basic of traditional units. The specific contents mainly includedthe following aspects.Firstly, this paper briefly introduced the development of pumping units. Itanalysed the changement of traditional chain pumping unit and put forward threekinds of schemes mainly including the frame, balance system, changement, etc. Atlast, the structure and energy saving scheme of the new style of chain pumping unitwas determined.Secondly, combined with the production request of the project, the paper carriedon theoretical calculation to determine the key paraments–the largest and minimumrod load and chose the appropriate style of motor, reducer, etc.Thirdly, the changement mechanism was the core part of the machine, so, itsmovement effect directly affects the performance of whole machine. The paper haddone mathematical modeling of changment mechanism’s movement and programmedby Matlab to get the relationship of stoke, rate of pump and motion. In order to verifythe above research results, this paper used the Adams software to establish the modelof changement combining multi-body kinematics. The results provided a series ofreference for experiments.Again, the rack was the basis for reversing, balance, drive, etc of chain pumpingunit and the rod load was acted on the rack, so, making sure its safety was particularlyimportant. Using the finite element analysis method, based on the Workbenchplatform, the statics and buckling analysis was carried on the rack. It was concluded that where was the most vulnerable parts of the frame and the results provided the gistfor further optimization. Finally using the engineering theory verify the reliability ofthe above results.Finally, the prototype of the main body was preliminary completed with the helpof our school leadership, teachers and classmates and the test was carried indoors. But,because of a lack of paraments of concrete, only acceleration, output torque of reducerand frame stress was tested.The research about pumping unit had a long history and the energy savingtechnology was not enough in our country. It had the certain difficulty to apply thetechnology to the actual, but, the research methods and results had a certain referencevalue for the further update of pumping unit.
